Are We Watching Justice or Turning Violence into Entertainment?

Violence, Due Process, Media Hype, and America’s Moral Crossroads

A courtroom should be one of the few places left in America where emotion does not get the final word.

A courtroom should be where facts are tested, evidence is challenged, rights are protected, and justice is pursued under the Constitution. It should not be a fan convention. It should not be a political stage. It should not be a social media performance where suspects become celebrities and victims are reduced to props in someone else’s narrative.

Welcome back to gayrightnews.com/.

America is facing a dangerous cultural question. Are we still watching justice, or are we turning violence into entertainment?

This question has become impossible to ignore as the Luigi Mangione case continues to draw national attention. Mangione is accused in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. He has pleaded not guilty, and the court process is still ongoing. A New York judge ruled that prosecutors may use the alleged gun and a notebook as evidence, while suppressing other items from Mangione’s backpack and some statements because of constitutional concerns involving search procedure and Miranda rights.

That ruling matters because it reminds the country that rights do not disappear when the accusation is serious. The government still has limits. Police still have rules. Prosecutors still have to prove their case lawfully. Judges still have to apply the Constitution even when the facts are disturbing and the public is angry.

That is not weakness. That is the rule of law.

Did the Court Just Remind America That Due Process Still Matters?

In a Constitutional Republic, the accused has rights because the people have rights.

That principle is easy to defend when the accused person is sympathetic. It becomes much harder when the accusation is horrifying. That is exactly why the Constitution matters most in difficult cases.

The court’s ruling does not mean Mangione is innocent. It does not erase the death of Brian Thompson. It does not excuse violence. It does not tell the public what the final outcome should be.

It simply means that the government must follow the law.

That is how justice is supposed to work. Evidence must be collected properly. Statements must be obtained legally. Searches must respect constitutional limits. Trials must be built on lawful procedure, not public rage.

Opinion: Conservatives, constitutionalists, and liberty-minded Americans should understand this better than anyone. If we only defend due process when we like the defendant, then we do not really believe in due process. We believe in selective protection.

The Constitution is not supposed to be popular. It is supposed to be principled.

Are We Forgetting the Victim While Turning the Accused into a Symbol?

Brian Thompson was not a symbol. He was a man.

His death was not a meme. It was not an online debate prompt. It was not a movie scene. It was not a slogan about health insurance, corporations, capitalism, or class warfare.

It was the killing of a real human being.

His family lost someone. His friends lost someone. His coworkers lost someone. Whatever people may think about the health insurance industry, that does not change the basic moral fact that murder is wrong.

Yet in parts of the internet, the accused has been treated like a folk hero. Some people appear more interested in building a mythology around the suspect than remembering the victim. Others have turned the case into a twisted political statement, as if violence becomes acceptable when the target represents something they dislike.

That is a dangerous road.

You can criticize corporations without celebrating murder. You can demand health care reform without cheering assassination. You can be angry at powerful institutions without turning bloodshed into entertainment.

Opinion: Once a society begins deciding that certain victims deserve violence because they represent the wrong industry, class, religion, politics, or institution, that society is no longer defending justice. It is feeding chaos.

Is the Media Covering Justice or Selling a Spectacle?

America’s modern media culture has a serious problem. It rewards outrage. It rewards drama. It rewards personality. It rewards villains and heroes more than facts and procedure.

That is why certain criminal cases become national spectacles. The courtroom becomes content. The defendant becomes a brand. The victim becomes secondary. The legal process becomes background noise while the public argues over memes, narratives, and emotional loyalty.

The public has a right to know what happens in major cases. Court reporting matters. Transparency matters. Journalism matters. Public scrutiny matters.

However, there is a difference between covering justice and commercializing violence.

When a case becomes more about the accused person’s image than the victim’s life, America has a problem. When people are more interested in the online legend of a suspect than the legal facts of the case, America has a problem. When violence becomes a shortcut to fame, America has a cultural sickness that cannot be ignored.

This is not only about one court case. It is about what the public chooses to reward.

Did America Forget That Political Violence and Hate Crimes Come from the Same Poisoned Root?

The concern does not stop with the Mangione case.

Reports out of San Diego described a deadly attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego, where worshippers were killed and investigators treated the attack as hate motivated. That kind of violence should shake every American who believes in religious liberty and basic human dignity.

A mosque should not become a battlefield. A church should not become a target. A synagogue should not become a fortress. A political rally should not become a place where families wonder whether they will make it home safely.

The First Amendment protects the free exercise of religion. It protects speech. It protects the press. It protects peaceful assembly. Those rights are not reserved for one political party, one faith, one movement, or one cultural tribe.

They belong to Americans.

Opinion: If we only defend religious freedom when it applies to our own side, then we do not believe in religious freedom. We believe in tribal preference.

That is not constitutionalism. That is hypocrisy.

Can We Condemn Violence Without Playing Political Games?

America has developed a bad habit of condemning violence selectively.

If the victim is on our side, we demand justice. If the accused appears connected to our cause, some people suddenly ask for nuance. If the target is someone we dislike, some people search for excuses.

That is not principle.

That is tribal rot.

A Constitutional Republic cannot survive if citizens accept violence as long as the target is unpopular enough. It cannot survive if media fame becomes a reward for extremism. It cannot survive if due process is only respected when it benefits a preferred political faction.

Murder is wrong. Political violence is wrong. Hate crimes are wrong. Mob justice is wrong. Government overreach is wrong. Illegal searches are wrong. Glorifying violence is wrong.

All of those statements can be true at the same time.

That is the standard America needs to recover.

Why This Matters Nationally, Statewide, and Locally

Nationally, this story is about whether America still believes in law over emotion. It is about whether courts can separate evidence from outrage. It is about whether citizens can defend constitutional rights while still rejecting violence.

At the state level, every state must ask whether its institutions are prepared for a culture where online radicalization, public anger, and media spectacle can quickly spill into real-world danger. Courts, law enforcement agencies, schools, houses of worship, and public officials are all operating in a more unstable civic environment.

Locally, including in North Carolina and Alamance County, the lesson is just as important. County meetings, school board meetings, campaign events, churches, mosques, businesses, and community gatherings all depend on one shared civic agreement.

We can disagree without becoming enemies. We can protest without becoming violent. We can criticize leaders without dehumanizing people. We can expose corruption without glorifying bloodshed.

Once that agreement breaks down, no community is immune.

Is America Becoming Numb to Bloodshed?

There was a time when public violence shocked the conscience of the nation.

Now, too often, people immediately ask how the story helps their side.

Before some people ask whether a victim had a family, they ask whether the victim fits their political narrative. Before they ask whether the accused received a fair trial, they ask whether the accused can be turned into a symbol. Before they ask what, the Constitution requires, they ask what their preferred algorithm wants them to believe.

That is not civic engagement.

That is moral decay dressed up as politics.

Opinion: America does not need more people cheering for collapse. America needs citizens who understand that liberty without order becomes chaos, and order without liberty becomes tyranny. A Constitutional Republic must reject both.

The Constitution protects the rights of the accused, but it does not glorify the accused. The Constitution protects speech, but it does not make violence noble. The Constitution limits government power, but it does not give citizens permission to become executioners.

That balance matters.

Is Justice Still Blind or Has the Crowd Taken Over the Courtroom?

The Go Right with Peter Boykin, the Constitutionalist for Liberty Perspective

Here is where I stand.

The accused deserves due process. The victim deserves dignity. The public deserves truth. The courts deserve to operate under the Constitution.

America deserves better than a culture that turns violence into a fan club.

The government must not be allowed to violate constitutional rights just because the accusation is serious. That is how liberty dies, one exception at a time.

At the same time, citizens must not glorify violence just because the victim represented something they hated. That is how civilization dies, one excuse at a time.

The Constitution protects speech. It does not glorify murder.

The Constitution protects the accused. It does not erase the victim.

The Constitution limits government power. It does not give citizens permission to become executioners.

The Constitution protects religious freedom. It does not allow hate to become a weapon.

If prosecutors have evidence, they should present it lawfully. If the defense has constitutional objections, the court should hear them seriously. If evidence was collected improperly, the judge should apply the law. If a jury hears the case, the jury should decide based on facts, evidence, and the law, not internet fandom.

That is justice.

Justice must be stronger than rage. Liberty must be stronger than tribalism. Truth must be stronger than media hype.

America does not need more courtroom celebrity culture. It does not need more assassin fan clubs. It does not need more selective outrage. It does not need more people pretending that violence is acceptable when the victim is unpopular.

America needs moral clarity.

We can argue fiercely and still reject murder. We can defend liberty and still demand public order. We can criticize powerful institutions and still refuse to celebrate bloodshed. We can protect due process and still remember the victim.

Because once America turns murder into entertainment, justice is no longer blind.

It becomes a show.

And when justice becomes a show, liberty becomes the next victim.
